| Anton Noack
There is no denying that Anton Noack
was one of South's greatest players. With such strength
and leap the giant won games off his own boot.
One of South's greatest players during
the 1970s and early 80s, Noack was a classical centre-half-forward
who had come up through the colts and kicked a torpedo
goal after the siren outside 50 to clinch an epic final
against Two Wells in 1974 at Gawler Oval.
His major
annual club trophies include the 1973 Most Unselfish,
1974 Most Determined and 1978 Runner Up Best and Fairest
awards. Along with a stint of league football
at Centrals in the mid-1970s as a key defender, Noack
played in the 1970, 1974 and 1979 A Grade flags, and
captained the club in 1980 and 1981 before leaving
to coach Smithfield in 1982. He then later coached
premierships at Willaston and Hamley Bridge.
Today he is equally revered at the
Donnybrooks, and for a time the Noack name - through
the brothers Paul, Anton and Tim, with their father
Eric a great sponsor - was synonomous with the
Lions.
