| Eric Sexton
Eric Sexton was a key defender
for South over ten seasons between 1915 and 1925.
After beginning in the 1915 Reserves, he
was a regular A Grader between 1920 and 1925. Along
with the likes of Eddie Rau and Charlie Nottle, he
was integral to the playing nucleus
who steered us through our most successful era in history.
He played in the 1915 and 1920 Reserves
premierships, before participating in the senior flags
of 1921, 1922, 1923 and captaining the 1924 and
1925 pennants. He also regularly represented the GFA
from 1923.
Sexton retired in 1926 as the GFA
folded, however he continued to mentor seconds footballers
as a defacto coach and was instrumental in cultivating
and preserving a strong bond between the two South
clubs into the next decades.
