| Garry Hurst
Although Garry Hurst has never been
celebrated as a footballer, he has always been an outstanding
admninistrator and supporter - respected as a
face of the modern South Gawler footy club.
After a brief stint in the Reserves,
including the 1964 B Grade premiership, real
estate agent Garry Hurst was first elected as Chairman
of the club in 1970. Since then he has held numerous
positions in the committee including seven terms as
Chairman, as well as being a trainer on gameday and
shouldering the responsibility of Patron.
Co-author of the 1989 history
book and coordinator of the Centenary Committee, Garry's
passion for the club is complimented by a great mind
for business. During the 1970s he excelled as a director
of advertising, publicity and entertainment - and he
was instrumental in leading the club to its own clubrooms
and homeground in 1981.
Honoured with Club Person of the
Year in 1985 and life membership in 1978, perhaps Garry's
proudest achievement at the club was seeing his son
Christopher grow up to be a great and longserving player
who would eventually captain the A Grade in 1999.
