Robert Edmonds
The son of legendary giant ruckman Stan, Bob Edmonds was one of the first Colts players to be revealed under his father and coach Stan. He was a member of their 1960 flag, our first junior premiership of any description and unbelievably, not much later he made is senior debut in the B Grade of 1961 as a thirteen year old. The B Grade went top that year but unfortunately young Edmonds missed out on playing in the Grand Final side.
However, Robert emerged in 1963 as something very special. While still virtually a colt he made his A Grade debut, and at only 15 years of age he is thought to be the youngest player to ever represent the GDFL combined A Grade side.
It was recorded that Bob (who in later years married Pat Clark, daughter of Life Members Len and Clarice, and sister of Life Member Des, Dean and Peter - all top A Grade players), stood and soundly beat league football veteran Shanks, who was imported by Roseworthy.
One of the best kicks with either foot ever seen at the Club, Bob was empahtic in the 1963 A Grade premiership, and very nearly stole the A Grade Best and Fairest trophy for the season from the great Dean Clark. Shortly afterwards he went on to play league football for Central Districts, who had now commenced league football in the SANFL, debuting with the Bulldogs in 1964 as a sixteen-year-old.
A super player and freakish talent.
