Stan Edmonds
Stan Edmonds was a giant ruckman who dominated the GDFL in the mid to late 1950s. Partnered by the great Robert Argent, he led the Lions in a centre square blessed with followers like John Nottle, and mentored young ruckmen to follow in his classical mould such as Brenton Nottle, Barry Deuter and the Heinrich brothers.
A member of the 1952, 1954 and 1955 premierships, Edmonds captained a resurgent A Grade between 1954 and 1956. In 1954 he was voted the best player in the GDFL by a mile, taking out the Mail Medal along with a club Best and Fairest trophy that year. Stan had also kicked the third highest goal aggregate in the league with 42 goals, the best goalkicker at our club.
Stan retired from footy in 1960 but became the first inaugural Colts coach in 1958 and 59, where his son Robert would emerge as perhaps an even better footballer than his father.
