| Robert (RO) Officer
Few figures in recent history command as much respect as Robert (RO) Officer. RO has done everything at the club and it seems still does. He was a great player, a premiership coach, has been a President, a Financial Director, a sponsor and for many years a Patron. He and his wife Leah are both Life Members and his sons Kane and Ryan have also represented Central District and the club respectively with great distinction. A true South man.
Bob played in the 1964 B Grade premiership in his debut year. He soon graduated to the A Grade in 1965, coming third in the senior Best and Fairest that season and would maintain his place as one of the most reliable champions over the next ten years. Even as he aged, he would still be regularly representing the GDFL.
RO contributed to the senior flags of 1967, 1969 - when he and his brother Steven were named best players for the Association side in the Central Districts Carnival, 1970 and 1974 - as Vice Captain. Bob's trophies include the Most Consistent awards of 1970 and 1972, runner-up in the Best and Fairest for 1974, and Most Unselfish in 1975.
Certainly influenced by the great Mick Daly, RO coached the A Grade between 1978 and 1981, when he steered us to the 1979 premiership. The Officer family, namely Bob, brother Steven and father Ted, have all been fantastic South people - and another of the now famous family names that have graced our club for over a hundred years.
