Fred May
1895 there was a sensation that Gawler would be providing six players to the S.A. Football Association. South's F. May and A. Arthur were two of these players, having signed up for South Adelaide.
Upon the eve of the 1898 football year, Fred May passed away.
Part of the success was attributed to the prominence of football families in the ranks. For example, the May family, Bill, Bob and Louis Price, "Chum" and Bob Rau.
By now, young brothers who had begun in the seconds, were establishing legendary South names. The May brothers became a great South family. Harry and Stan had grown up to be Captains, and Sylvester was a Vice Captain.
