Yves Sibenaler
The Sibenaler name is today synonomous with the Lions. It begins with five very tall and very strong brothers with French accents who never mind a beer - Zac, Yves, Guy, Francis and Peter - all fine footballers who reached A Grade level between the 1960s and 1990s.
One of the original first Colts, the giant Yves Sibenaler graduated to the A Grade in 1974 where he would remain an imposing figure until 1981. His time as a champion at the club was only ever interrupted by a try-out at Centrals in 1975 where he achieved league selection as a ruckman and key defender, and later an horrific facial injury (which he bravely came back from) towards the end of his career once he had come home. Yves was a member of the 1974 and 1979 senior premierships, and was Vice Captain of the A Grade when he returned in 1976.
His impressive resume also includes A Grade trophies for the Most Unselfish 1972 and 1974, Best Team Man in 1975, and Third Best and Fairest in 1976. For a time the biggest and the oldest of the Sibenaler brothers, Yves and Zac, completely dominated the GDFL.
